Recycling Network
Since August 1996, the Pfaffengrund production companies have had an intensive exchange of questions concerning recycling management within the companies and in between the companies. A related pilot project under the leadership of the Heidelberg Institute for Environmental Economy Analysis brought, for the single producers, significant savings of disposal costs, thus returning the financial subsidies of the single companies within less than a two-year time period. Furthermore, encompassing synergy effects of the common approach became visible with respect to law and disposal safety, as well as with respect to the creation of programming presuppositions for certifications of companies.
Thanks to the great success of the pilot project, which was made possible not only through the deciders from the area of environmental management, but often also through the CEO's themselves, the approach for inter-company coordination to problems relevant to recycling issues has recently become enlarged to the entire Rhein-Neckar Region. This was possible with support of the Federal Secretary for Research. As a result, the industrial enterprises of the Heidelberg Pfaffengrund Area have gained, through their early initiative, a cutting edge position.
Currently, the main goal is to make the industrial region of Rhein-Neckar the 7th largest agglomeration area of Germany. Also, to make this area transparent as a recycling region and through this relationship furthering both economic , ecological and social sustainability on a local and regional level.
